Fourth and final interview completed now. I wasn't sure whether this interview would actually be possible as there has recently been a new baby born into the family. But luckily the interview went well although fairly quick and not much depth to the answers but perhaps that is more to do with the fact that the participant 'W' does not have any issues at all with being a middle child. With the personality traits, 'W' strangely chose the firstborn characteristics, this doesn't fit in with Leman's theories at all. If anything I could understand more baby qualities as there is a 7 yr age gap between her and her younger brother. Although 'W' did choose a friend as the person they would turn to rather than a family member. This is apparently typical of a middle child according to Leman.
I'm not too sure how I feel about my data, not sure whether it can be called successful or not. I realise I have only completed four interviews but only one of the interviewees has issues with being a middle child. I think maybe I was expecting a few more to have problems especially with everything that has been written about the subject and the general opinions surrounding middle children. I was hoping that more issues would make the interviews and data interesting.
I suppose the data is interesting in its own way, in the fact that there are a lot of contrasts rather than comparisons to the literature. On to the analysis now.
